Bath RC Quadrille Team
Quadrille Sponsorship
A big thank you to Garston Vets who are kindly sponsoring Bath RC’s Quadrille
team in their quest to be even better at Olympia 2013
Quadrille is a display of horsemanship, set to music with a team of four riders wearing costume. The display need not necessarily be based on the movements of dressage. The competition takes the form of a selection trial, where four teams are selected to go forward to the final at Olympia.
Bath Quadrille Team qualify for Olympia with Do you believe......For the fourth year on the trot Bath Riding Clubs Quadrille team have qualified for the BRC SEIB Quadrille Finals to be held at the prestigious Olympia Horse Show in December. This years team is made up of Chantelle Bucknell on Disney, Georgina Bryce on Otto, Rachel Yeomans on Monty and Jen Watkins on Balou. Preparations for this years Quadrille started on the way home from Olympia 2012!! The decision was made to do it for a final year with this team as the horses are older now and some will need to start having an easier life soon. We spent many evenings putting together floor plans, choreography, costumes, music, fund raising and of course practicing the routine. The Peter Pan fairy garden theme inspired a fun yet complex routine, with beautiful costumes, wings and fairy finesse. To say the run up to the qualifiers was difficult would be an understatement. Disney has been lame, has a sleep disorder and has suffered with stomach ulcers, Monty, after recovering from a broken leg last December, has been lame (on a different leg) and receiving Chemotherapy treatment and Jen's ex-racer Pedro thought he'd prefer to race than dance when put into an "atmosphere"! Balou belonging to Julia Andrews of Kate Negus Saddlery has been ridden by us all through the practices and truly loves is quadrille job. The horse side of the team was selected only 10 days before the qualifiers and with the worry of sleepless nights for them all to pass the trot ups we were kindly loaned Kate Hulberts horse Zig to take as a reserve, thank you! This years qualifiers was held at Bury Farm Equestrian and was incorporated with the British Riding Clubs dressage to music championships. The venue was lovely and the big indoor arena had plenty of seating for spectators. The atmosphere on the Saturday evening was fantastic!!! We all arrived on the Friday with a time slot of 4pm to have ridden rehearsals within the arena and then the veterinary inspections followed. Chantelle's birthday was the same day and the best present she could ever have wished for came true as Disney and the rest of the team passed the trot ups, meaning the forever faithfuls could all compete. Saturday was a day of preparations and Georgina and Kim Walkers pairs test in which they qualified for back in the summer and they finished in a very credible 5th place. The evening came and we were transformed into fairies sat on magical ponies and all ready for costume judging followed by the performances of which we were on at 10.00PM! The horses were all amazing and the cheers from the crowd when we did our gallop square was just incredible, we could not have asked for anymore from them and it was so much fun for us all too! The most daunting part of the evening is when all of the teams have to line up in the arena un-mounted and await in a "no particular order" scenario for the top four teams to be called out. There are only four spaces available for the finals and the competition standards grows hugely each year....But then it happened the fairy tale ending we all had been dreaming of - Bath Riding Clubs "Do you Believe" - we had done it!!!! We must say a huge congratulations to all that competed and to the other qualifying teams: Cornwall Trecs "Mary Poppins", Saffron Waldrons "Send in the clowns" and Three Rivers's "Freds and Gingers". None of this could have happened without the help of our amazing support team: Anne thank you so much for all of your hard work with the costumes and Primm and Alison thank you for your sewing and help too, Emma, Emma, Sarah and Alison you were all brilliant with preparations and and of course big thanks to Nick our Chef'dquippe, Elder Klatzko our ever patient trainer, Julia Andrews for the use of Balou and our 2013 sponsor The Powerline (entertainments) Ltd - For all of your outdoor power requirements: www.thepowerline.co.uk So will we have an even bigger fairy tale ending to our Quadrille quest 2013, fingers (and toes) crossed.........we will report in after Olympia! The weekend finished on a great high for individual competitors of Bath riding Club also, with Rachel Yeomans finishing 10th in the Novice 0points Dressage to music Championships and Kim Walker finishing 2nd in the Novice points section. Smiles and champagne all round for Bath RC!

The quadrille team hold numerous fun events throughout the year to fundraise to assist in getting to these finals.
