The club holds training rallies for all abilities every week at various locations including Hill House Farm at Buckland Dinham, Widbrook Equestrian Centre at Bradford-on-Avon and West Wilts Equestrian Centre. Training rallies are split into sections according to ability and include showjumping rallies, gridwork sessions, flatwork or polework rallies. For cross country rallies we will have used Rabson Manor, Downlands EC near Warminster and Leyland Court in Bristol and Wickstead in Highworth, Swindon.
Non-members are welcome to attend but will be charged a slightly higher price. Training sessions are very popular so book early to avoid disappointment. We do operate waiting lists but these only work if those booked onto training sessions inform us in good time that they are unable to attend. Please note that many people on the waiting list do make it onto the final bookings due to changes/ cancellations, therefore if you are on a waiting list but no longer able to attend please inform your training officer.
Wherever possible, please try to use email for making or amending bookings. If email is not possible please text your requirements to the numbers below. If you need to contact your training officer about training due to take place on the same day, please text. We understand with the nature of horses that it is not easy to predict when a horse may be lame or lose a shoe or the rider becomes ill but we would very much appreciate it if you let us know prior to training if you cannot attend. If you cancel after the training/grouping email has been sent out 3 days before the session you will still need to pay for your place unless a replacement can be found. The more notice you can give when cancelling the more likely it is that a replacement can be found.
We would be extremely grateful if everyone attending training could try and give our instructors a hand with setting up, moving or altering, or clearing away jumps. You will get more from your hour lesson if the instructors do not
have to move jumps around all by themselves so it is in your best interest to lend a hand either before you get on your horse before the lesson or afterwards. Or even better, bring a friend to help. For those of you in the last group at evening training sessions can you please load up and make your way home straight after your session has ended as there is someone waiting to lock up and we do not like to keep them waiting longer than necessary.
Safety
If you are attending training by yourself then please ensure that there are emergency contact details available either in your vehicle or an ICE number programmed into your mobile phone just in case of any unfortunate accidents. If
you are cross country training, body protectors are compulsory and it would be wise to wear your medical armband. Please note that the use of draw reins, standing martingales (for jumping) and other similar training aids are permitted only at the discretion of the instructor. Bitless bridles are not permitted by British Riding Clubs and so we must also abide by this ruling. Please see your instructor at the start of your session should you wish to use a training aid during your session. For insurance purposes no rider will be permitted to take part in Club activities unless they are wearing a hard hat, which meets a standard currently recommended by the BHS (PAS 015, EN1384 or ASTM F 1163, and bearing the kite mark or SEI) Finally, in order to keep our venues happy, we would ask that you double check around your trailer etc before leaving to ensure you have removed any droppings and hay.
Booking In
Booking training by e-mail couldn't be easier. Simply send an e-mail to bathridingclub@hotmail.com and put in the subject heading 'Training - (venue, ie West Wilts)'
Alternatively you can book in by telephone call or text to the following numbers but please ensure this is between 6pm to 9pm.
Hill House – Janet Border (07765 252141)
Widbrook – Kate Hulbert (07956 665598)
West Wilts – Chantelle Bucknell (07990 914 242)
Please ensure you book your space at least 3 days before the training session to avoid disappointment, especially at Hill House where sessions are very popular. This also helps to avoid having to regroup people and change timings after times have been sent out.
Occasionally due to unforeseen circumstances we may need to use a different instructor than advertised. The 3 day cancellation rule still applies in this instance as we are not always able to give prior notice of a change.
